Goresh (Turkmen wrestling)

Goresh (Turkmen wrestling)

The national wrestling of the Turkmens. The attire is a national knee-length robe tied with a soft belt. Grips may be taken on the belt and anywhere on the robe above the belt.

To win, a wrestler must throw the opponent onto their back or make them touch the ground at three points. Throws between the legs are allowed. There is no time limit.

Each match consists of three bouts without a time limit, and the winner is the one who takes two of the three. Goresh rules are a good way of teaching wrestlers stability and movement on the mat.
